Bad Idea

Bad Idea is a collaborative effort with my good friend, Matt Wood. Our alter egos, Vhilmiczech and Whilmiczech Whoahdunnskiy, came about somewhat organically decades ago when Matt and I worked on an art staff and were often referred to as "the two young guys." Together we've produced a handful of short films under the Bad Idea banner as well as quite a bit of material in the years before Bad Idea was formed. We make a good fit as we have a shared vision on art, aesthetics, and the general absurdities that permeate today's advertising industry. VISIT BAD IDEA

Epic Fail 1

The Curious Lives of CaliHeart I am always working on something outside of my "day job." As such, I had the idea, some years ago, to develop a Follow Doc about one of the most unusual families you'll ever see. "The Curious Lives of CaliHeart" was to be a show surrounding the titular character and the unorthodox lifestyle she led. I shot for six weeks on their ranch in the mountains of Northern California and conducted multiple shoots in other parts of California and Nevada as well. Going for a reality show is always a long shot but everything about this family and CaliHeart herself…

Epic Fail 2

Malcolm's Garden This is a concept I co-conceived with a creative architect friend of mine aimed at capturing the hearts of children and adults alike. I produced this piece using scans from printed materials by the brilliant illustrator, Alison Jay. My "EPIC FAIL" came in the form of me lending my creative capital to a third party who promised to bankroll the project and therefore assumed 100% control. Another significant mistake on my part was recognizing that there was no clear path to monetize the series of animations we were planning to produce and proceeding anyway. The project swallowed hundreds of man hours of my…

Weirdest Job

Every once in a while, I'll get a job that is so quirky that I have to check with the client or agency to make sure they're serious. That scenario played out with some regularity when I was asked to post produce a series of ten second spots for the Sands Regency in Reno, NV. They were noisy, frenetically-paced, hard-sell jumbles of cheapness, but the one that took the crazy cake was "Cash Cowduction!"Based on my description, you might think I didn't enjoy this kind of work so I want to set the record straight. I had an absolute blast producing these spots. All of…

Funnest Job

Bad MoFo The most fun I've ever had working on a project was when Bad Idea partner, Matt Wood and I produced our Bad Idea promo, "Bad MoFo." It didn't come without significant investments in labor and hard costs but it was loads of fun to produce.Cast members include Rochelle Vannoy as the screaming woman in the "Visitor" trailer. Steve Connolly, a real life Elvis impersonator, as the retro police officer getting ready to bag the bad guy. Dan McCoy as a cop-dodging perp who delivers the thoughtful line, "Suck this, pig!" (and no, that's not his real fro). My neighbor's daughter, Maya who is actually…

On the Strip

This ad for Crystals inside the Aria was a blast to produce. Working in the extreme vertical format was a unique experience. A big "THANK YOU!" to Judy Stone who tapped me for this project.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRwpC4Ed5jg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11UGz2uJZoU
